During the Community Rally on Denouncing/Indignation of Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) last December 27, 2019, the Local Government of Maasin City has declared the CPP-NPA-NDF as PERSONA NON-GRATA by the Hon Mayor, Nacional V. Mercado. This is in support to the EO #70 where the LGUs and government agencies were enjoined to do their share to end local communist armed conflict (ELCAC).
On September 11, 2019, Programang MA.A.S.IN Otherwise known as “MAmamayan Ayaw Sa INsureksyon” was introduced by the newly assigned Southern Leyte Provincial Jail Administrator / City Jail Warden, JSUPT RILL F SONON to Five Hundred students of Dongon National High School.
The intent of the program is to support our government’s drive against insurgency. The recruitment of minors at school level by the insurgents shall somehow be minimized. It aims to enlighten the minds of school children the goodness and prosperity of life being a patriotic, law abiding, God fearing professionals and productive citizens of the land. Anything that is first drawn or written shall have the most influence in the tender minds of our young people.
The inculcation of Programang MAASIN through testimonials of PDLs presented in audio-visual, saying and lamenting their regrets and remorse over the crime/s committed, the stigma and difficulties of living in a congested jail, will somehow convinced the children to be a law abiding citizen, follow the advices of their teachers, study hard, finish their schooling, be employed and lead a meaningful life eventually.
Both the Provincial and City DILG Offices shows support to our program and proposes a budget for the conduct of this activity. Last October 24, 2019, the BJMP Southern Leyte Provincial Office through the leadership of JSUPT RILL F SONON received a Certificate of Recognition as OUTSTANDING PARTNER in the delivery of programs and services that promote peace and order, ensure public safety and strengthen local governance capacity of the Southern Leyte LGUs
For now, Maasin City Jail has a monthly Programang MAASIN activity in schools. Some even send request to our unit for this campaign to be conducted to their students to help deter crimes. This program is BJMPs contribution-effort to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC) and deter insurgent’s recruitment of minors in schools and is continuously done as Maasin City Jail’s best practice program prior to the denouncing/indignation of CTG (CPP-NPA).
